Podcast Reflection

This week we were able to create a podcast through garageband. We uploaded our recording to our googlesite and were able to create the link to the service announcement.

Podcasts are an easy and reliable way to communicate information that doesn't have to be written. This can be announcements, emergency broadcasts, or even fun information or songs for the class members. Because the files are easily accessible, podcasts could be used to share through email, or post to sites for reference. Not only is creating podcasts valuable as a teacher, but students could easily create their own to share. Sharing with the class becomes a unique learning experience for students.

Using podcasts in teaching can promote a technical and unique learning experience. There are so many podcasts available online for students in a reading or music center. I am a firm believer in incorporating technology or other media means in teaching different subjects. This highlight also makes cooperating with other teachers fun. I think it would be cool for students to communicate through podcasts with students from other schools or even countries. It could be part of a unit on history, culture, or social studies. Kind of like a pen pal, but through speaking. There are so many options available through technology and the internet for enhances learning. I am glad that I was able to learn about another form of teaching I can easily implement into my students curriculum.

Reflection Week 3

What?
Covering so much information on technology is overwhelming but fun. I thought I knew quite a lot about google and blogging. Through igoogle I try to streamline everything but it has posed difficulty in some areas like scheduling. I was excited to experience google calendar and google sites.

So what?
The google site we are making has so many good options for personalizing and correlating. Having a google site for my classroom would help me feel my responsibility to communicate with parents or absent students was easier. I like having everything in one place with easy references and links. Updating a classroom site shouldn't take long and should be beneficial to everyone involved. I would hope it would also cut paper correspondence and lack of student to parent information relay gap.

Now What?
Google docs is a great site for collaborating with other teachers. I don't see any reason to not work with other teachers in sharing information and lesson plans and this is a very easy way to do it. I feel that through current technology, namely blogs, google sites and docs, the school, classroom, and home can all be connected without communication errors or gaps. I will also use technology to store information. I think it will be much easier to plan each year and feel organized in planning and arranging lessons. Besides management and organization I think technology is very useful for teaching. There are so many resources in non traditional forms online that I believe could be very useful for multiple learning styles. One of these would be virtual field trips and science labs available online. There are additional means of enhancing learning in multiple fields which I will utilize in my classroom.

Technology Advances

I know now that many schools are equipt with smartboards and other advanced media variables. I have used power point and enjoy the abilities that digital photography can give to a teacher. However, I also think we need to use care pertaining to time management. For me personally, technology can be a time sucker!

I feel lucky to be starting my teaching career in a time when technology is as advanced as it is. I remember not long ago even in high school when research methods were traditional books, and research journals. I think that being able to integrate all the technology sources through the internet and other media will greatly enhance the ease of teaching and the depth to which students can learn. I look forward to increasing my knowledge in media resources to help with lesson planning, curriculum design and planning, and also integrating actual media sources into my teaching realm.
